Steven M. Ekovich
National Managing Director
Vice President, Investments

Mr. Ekovich has been in the real estate business since 1985, both brokering commercial real estate and serving as Regional Manager for several Marcus & Millichap offices. He has closed or overseen over $3.5 billion of real estate transactions. Currently Steve is the National Managing Director of the Leisure Investment Properties Group and Vice President of Investments for Marcus & Millichap. Since 2011 Mr. Ekovich has listed, sold and underwritten in excess of $1 billion of leisure investment properties (golf courses, resorts, marinas and master planned communities). Ekovich has sold the nation’s largest banking institutions, as well as major national and international leisure asset owners. Mr. Ekovich has been a published author in numerous golf trade publications such as: Golf Inc., Golf Business, Florida Golf Central and has been named one of the top ten “Movers & Shakers” by Golf Business for 2014. Additionally, Ekovich is routinely called upon for leisure investment industry statistics and quotes by well-known institutions such as Bloomberg News, The New York Times and the Business Journals in major metropolitan areas. Mr. Ekovich has been a featured speaker since 1998 at commercial real estate and leisure industry events nationally.

Mr. Ekovich has opened 4 offices for Marcus & Millichap, was voted “Regional Manager of the Year,” was the National Director of Marcus & Millichap’s National Self Storage Group and he is the perennial top broker at Marcus & Millichap in the Golf / Hospitality Division.

 


Matthew Putnam
National Marina Director

Investment Advisor

Mr. Putnam has been an associate of the National Marina and Resort Divisions of the Leisure Investment Properties Group since 2010. Prior to gaining associate status with the group, Mr. Putnam served as a financial analyst and marketing coordinator. Since joining the group in 2009, Mr. Putnam has been involved in underwriting more than $500 million of leisure investment properties golf, marina and resort assets and has been directly involved in closing more than $60 million. He has held an active real estate license since 2006 and got his start in the real estate business while managing condo-hotel properties along Florida’s west coast. In 2014, Mr. Putnam was instrumental in the formation of the National Marina Divison.  Mr. Putnam graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing. He has held various positions in the golf and hospitality industry since 2000, including time at Innisbrook Golf Resort, Hilton, Starwood and Provident Management.

Mr. Putnam also holds an active CAM license and was the Assistant General Manager of Sunset Vistas in Treasure Island, Florida before joining Marcus and Millichap. He served as an active real estate agent during that time as well. His experience in the golf and hospitality operations arena has served him well in his time with the group.


 


Raymond E. Demby, III
Investment Advisor
Head of Research & Analysis

Mr. Demby joined the team in early 2012 after relocating from Cleveland, OH where he attended Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management. Since joining the LIPG, Mr. Demby has personally underwritten over $700 million worth of leisure assets.  After coming in as a Financial Analyst & Marketing Coordinator in 2012, Mr. Demby was promoted to Senior Financial Analyst in 2013 and also took on the role of Investment Advisor beginning in 2014. During this time, Mr. Demby has contributed to the ongoing evolution of the team’s semi-annual Golf Division Investment Report and personally directed the introduction of the NG&RPG’s inaugural Golf Investor Sentiment Survey, resulting in him being named the Head of Research & Analysis for the group.  Mr. Demby has been heavily involved in the team’s research initiatives since joining the group. This data has been quoted or referenced in a number of high profile publications, including Bloomberg (LINK), Forbes (LINK), the National Golf Foundation (NGF) (LINK) and more. In addition to his duties as the Head of Research & Analysis, Ray will continue to represent buyers and sellers as an Investment Advisor.  In 2014, Mr. Demby was recognized by the Tampa Bay Business Journal as the Top 30 Under 30 in Tampa Bay.

 


Daniel B. Grovatt
Investment Advisor

Mr. Grovatt joined LIPG in 2014. Prior to joining the group, Mr. Grovatt gained a passion for marinas and beach properties through family investments on the New Jersey shore islands. Originally, Mr. Grovatt relocated to the Tampa area to pursue a career in professional baseball. He was an 11th round pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2010 and played three minor league seasons with the Pirates, highlighted by an All-star selection in 2011.
Mr. Grovatt attended the University of Virginia and completed his Bachelors degree in December 2013. While at Virginia, he was an MVP and 1st team All-ACC member of the Cavaliers’ ACC champion and College World Series team. He was also recognized for his efforts in the classroom, including two All-ACC academic team selections and perennial honor roll selections. The transition to investment real estate allows Mr. Grovatt to combine his competitive drive, analytical mind, and strong work ethic to create a first-class experience for our clients.

 


Andrew Cantor
Investment Advisor

Mr. Cantor joined the National Marina Division of the Leisure Investment Properties Group as an Investment Advisor in November 2013 to help build the group’s marina brokerage business.  Mr. Cantor brings over 15 years of real estate transaction experience with an emphasis on marina, golf and resort asset classes.  Prior to joining the group, Mr. Cantor worked as a mortgage broker successfully originating and closing $200M in new loans secured by marina properties in the United States, Caribbean and Mexico.  Loans were arranged with Textron Financial, through their marina lending program, which Mr. Cantor started in 2004 and grew into the largest marina lender in the nation, and later with third-party funding sources when Textron left real estate lending in 2008.  In addition to his mortgage brokerage activity, Mr. Cantor has advised on numerous acquisition opportunities in the marina space including providing financial analysis and projections, site inspection, market research and analysis, and valuation/offer price.  Prior to his work in the marina asset class, Mr. Cantor underwrote over $600M in acquisition, refinance and construction loans as a key member of the Golf Finance Division at Textron Financial.  Before Textron Financial, Mr. Cantor played a key role on an acquisition team at KSL Fairways that purchased eight golf facilities and developed a turnaround strategy for each asset that resulted in a 20%+ IRR for the company’s private equity sponsor.

Mr. Cantor graduated magna cum laude from Washington & Lee University with a B.S. in Business Administration & Accounting and in 2000 he earned an MBA from the  Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.  He holds a certificate in Hotel Investment & Asset Management from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration.  Mr. Cantor is a licensed real estate broker in Georgia and is certified as an expert in utilizing Argus DCF Valuation software.


 


Justin Leith
Financial Analyst

Mr. Leith became a part of the group in 2012 after graduating from the Sykes College of Business at the University of Tampa. While attending the University of Tampa he was a member of the nationally ranked Spartan baseball team and worked as an intern with LIPG. He was involved with the development of strategic coding and new client clarifications, strategic research projects, marketing support, asset valuation, and underwriting. Mr. Leith graduated in 2012 with a B.S. in Finance and in December 2013 he received his Master of Business Administration. Upon completion of his M.B.A. Mr. Leith returned to the NG&RPG in a full time capacity serving as both the Financial Analyst and the Marketing Coordinator for the group. While with the team, Mr. Leith has personally underwritten more than $400,000,000 of lesiure assets.


Kelly M. Conlon
Business Operations Manager
Executive Assistant to Steven Ekovich

Ms. Conlon joined the National Golf & Resort Properties group in 2013 and brings more than 25 years’ experience in business management, marketing management, statistical management and entrepreneurship. Her background includes managing a million dollar marketing budget resulting in 500% – 600% ROI for 5 consecutive years. Ms. Conlon’s management planning includes a strong emphasis on strategic planning, business analysis, key performance indicators, process improvement, brand recognition and in-depth sales training and support. She has been published in multiple national trade magazines, as well as The NCT of London, England and The Tampa Tribune. Ms. Conlon continues to write speeches on a consultant basis for various Tampa CEOs and Presidents of large corporations and firms, as well as for local political officials. Ms. Conlon has held many committee and board positions for non-profit institutions including Susan G. Komen Foundation, Hillsborough Education Foundation and Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough. Raised in New York City, Ms. Conlon received her formal education from NYC’s Rhodes Preparatory and attended UCLA prior to moving abroad.Ms. Conlon’s primary focus includes business operation management and administration, as well as public relations, marketing and transaction management.
